A detached panel in fireplace cladding requires checking the substrate and fastening method before being glued again. The glue will not stabilize crumbling plaster or a movable structure. First, determine whether the repair concerns a single joint or a fault in the entire panel system.
What tasks is Board Adhesive intended for?
Vitcas Board Adhesive BA is an adhesive for compatible high-temperature, insulating, and vermiculite boards. The manufacturer also describes connections between the boards and mounting to a suitably flat masonry substrate. The selection of a specific method must correspond to the board’s instructions and the function of the site.
Check whether the material being used is indeed the adhesive intended for the given system. Similar names for sealant, tile adhesive, and board adhesive do not imply the same applications.
Substrate irregularities matter.
After the area is exposed, assess its stability, cleanliness, and flatness. BA should not be used for arbitrary filling of large voids behind the board. The product sheet specifies mounting on flat surfaces and gap limitation to 5 mm. For a different layout, a proper method is needed, not a thicker layer of the same adhesive.
Vitcas HB60 has separate application requirements and may correspond to different mounting tasks. Do not replace adhesives without checking the substrate, preparation conditions, and scope of use. For HT panels, also consider the direction of the side intended for further finishing.
Repair the connection, maintaining the installation layout.
Perform a trial fit and confirm the support of the element. Maintain the intended gaps, service access, and ventilation flow. A space left by accident and a deliberate construction gap are different situations; do not fill both automatically.
After bonding, wait the required time before applying further layers and heating. If delamination occurs along with the cracking of a larger part of the casing, it is worth checking the construction with the contractor. Simply re-gluing the panel may not be sufficient for a durable repair.
