The canopy over a garden oven should limit precipitation without hindering the exhaust of gases and the operation of the device. Start with a drawing of the oven, chimney, entrance, and edges of the planned roofing. The rain cover changes the environment of the heat source, so it must be considered together with the oven structure.
Show the path of water and exhaust gases
Mark where water from the surface of the canopy flows. The drain should not direct it to the entrance, the base, or layer joints. Also check for side-driven rain; the canopy above the dome does not eliminate all sources of moisture.
The exhaust pipe must meet the conditions specified for the device and the system used. If it passes through the roof, a proper detail for passage, support, and protection of adjacent materials is required. A general description of silicone sealing the hole does not replace such a solution.
Select materials appropriate for the specific location
Outdoor Oven Cement is used for parts compatible with the exterior refractory structure. It does not specify the load-bearing capacity of the posts or the guidelines for mounting the cover over a hot appliance. Each part of the canopy requires its own design and connection.
Vitcas heat resistant silicone is used in appropriate flexible parts. It is not an automatic replacement for specified flue penetration components nor a solution for every temperature. With the prefabricated oven, check the intended layout before ordering enclosure materials.
Maintain access during work and inspection
Go through the sketch for fuel loading, using the shovel, and removing hot parts. The canopy should not block these activities or the necessary chimney inspection. The design must also suit the actual openness of the installation location.
Before execution, confirm the required distances, support, and ventilation for the selected solution. After installation, check the water drainage and access to removable parts. Keep the documentation of the flue penetration so that later roof repairs do not change its essential working conditions.
